Famous Ocean Explorers
Today the thought of yachts conjures up images of sunbathing, Caribbean holidays and luxury. But not so long ago, these vessels were the simple structures that intrepid explorers called home for many years at a time and transported people to places that they could never have dreamed existed. Yachts like the Santa Maria helped sailors find the North American continent while the Victoria was the first vessel to sail around the globe. Hundreds of years ago people were not only driven by the desire to explore the earth, but also to claim the best access to the riches of spices in the East. Many journeys ensued, with some resulting in the most spectacular and accidental discoveries. Even though every corner of the earth has now been “discovered”, man’s desire to explore the oceans has never ceased. To this day brave men and women face the swells to cement themselves in history by conquering the world’s oceans. The Forerunners of Ocean Exploration Bartholomew Dias and Vasco Da Gama The Portuguese have often been credited as some of history’s bravest explorers and the establishment of the Spice Route to India is to this country’s credit. What drove much exploration of the seas in the early years was a desire to gain the best access to the rich resource of spices in the East. In his quest to find such a route, Bartholomew Dias became the first European to navigate around the southern-most tip of Africa. It was Dias who first named the Cape the “Cape of Storms” and while the explorers did not make it all the way to the East on their 1488 journey, they have never been forgotten for their feat of being the first Europeans to sail around the tip of the African continent. Vasco Da Gama was more successful in his quest to create the best Spice Route for the Portuguese and, in 1498, reached Calicut in India. The tales of his cruel treatment of the people living in the places along the route are chilling, but his victory was claiming the best Spice Route possible in the name of the Portuguese. This sea route was far less treacherous than heading overland through Asia and gave Portugal the ultimate advantage in trade in the 15th and 16th centuries. Christopher Columbus By 1493, Italian Christopher Columbus was convinced that a quicker route could be found to the East by travelling west. What resulted was a discovery that changed the face of world geography forever. When he could not convince his own countrymen of his theory, Columbus moved to Spain and managed to convince the authorities to fund his expedition. He set sail in August 1492 and was in sight of the Bahamas within only ten weeks, which he mistakenly believed to be Japan. Further west when the voyagers reached Cuba, they were convinced they had found China and moved inland to “India”. The dark-skinned people they encountered were soon labelled “Indians” and Columbus returned to Europe victorious in his achievement of finding the quickest route to the riches of the East. Columbus returned to his East three times during the remainder of his life exploring Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Trinidad. He died believing he had found the shortest route to the East, never knowing that he had in fact discovered something much, much more important. Ferdinand Magellan Ferdinand Magellan was not discouraged by the subsequent discovery of Columbus’ actual failure to find a westerly route to the East and set of in 1519 to prove that it could be done. Although from Portugal, Magellan undertook this journey with Spanish backing and set sail in 1519. The five ships in the party housed 260 men who had no idea where they were going as Magellan believed they would be too frightened too continue. A massive storm along the coast of South America forced the ships to seek cover and thus Magellan discovered an inlet — completely by accident. The Magellan Strait, as it is now known, offers a route through the South American continent to the Pacific Ocean on the other side. With one ship deserting the voyage, Magellan and his four other ships suffered extreme hardships on the Pacific and only 18 of the 260 men made it back to Spain three years later. The journey went through the Philippines where Magellan himself was killed in battle and on to the East where the ships were loaded with spices. The Victoria continued west and made it back to Spain, while all of the other ships were lost at sea. The westerly spice route discovered by Magellan and his crew was not used for many years, thanks to the treacherous outcome it had for the many men on board. Instead of discovering a new Spice Route, Magellan is actually credited with captaining the first circumnavigation of our globe, a more impressive feat by miles. Modern Ocean Explorers Ocean exploration has never stopped since the great explorers of the 15th and 16th centuries, but has simply evolved to become more in depth, competitive and adventurous. By the beginning of the 20th century, most of the earth’s waters had been explored and ocean travels became more about setting records than discovering new places. The year was 1895 when American Joshua Slocum set out to become the first man to sail solo around the world. He sustained himself during the three year trip by stocking up on supplies from islands along the way and his safe return home in 1898 cemented his place in the history books. The next person to better this record was Sir Francis Chichester in 1967 who managed an around the world feat that only required one stop in a year long trip aboard Gypsy Moth. It was a fellow Briton, Robin Knox-Johnston who, twelve years later, managed to finally circumnavigate the world without stopping — in a lightning fast 312 days. In 1988, Kat Cottee became the first woman to sail solo and non-stop around the world in an improved time of only 189 days. To date, the fastest solo trip every recorded to circumnavigate the globe occurred as recently as 2008. Francis Joyon, a 51 year old Frenchman, climbed aboard his 98ft fire-engine red trimaran Idec and reappeared around the world just 57 days later. This took a massive 14 days off the previous record which was held by the fastest female sailor in the history of yachting, Dame Ellen McArthur.Find out more about some of the spectacular yachts sailing our oceans today, many of which are available to buy or charter. http://www.ypi.co.uk/
Source: www.ArticlePros.com

Plan On The Run: Last Minute Vacations
Many things happen in life which cannot be predicted. Depending on certain employment situations, or unforeseen events in scheduling, vacation time can be granted with short notice. In the grand scheme of things, it does not matter why, but is important to be able to take advantage of the time allotted. A bittersweet spot to find yourself in, planning a vacation at the last minute is not an impossible task. Your initial reaction is a sense of dread that you will be stuck with a higher priced vacation because of the short notice. Also, you may be kicking yourself for not planning ahead. Although planning a vacation at the last minute is not ideal, there may be good news. Last minute vacations can bring bargains not found in other situations. It Is All Part of the Package Trying to get a flight at the last minute can be intimidating. Stress becomes more prevalent when people are rushed, and trying to book a flight and hotel reservation at the last minute can definitely produce some stress. When you are short on time, you may feel that you are at the mercy of whatever you find. Even though your choices may be limited, there are still ways to save money on your vacation. By purchasing a deal that combines your flight with lodging, some savings can be made. Open seats on airplanes can be tied into other parts of a vacation package, and, when bought as a single unit, are sold at a discounted price. Not only will you end up with a booked flight that is cheaper than it would be were you to buy it on its own, but you will already have your lodging and possibly a rental car booked for your vacation. Finding a great package deal at the last minute is very possible and a great way to use the brief time available when planning a vacation at the last minute. Booking a Hotel Room at the Last Minute Booking a hotel room can be complicated process even if you have plenty of time to work with. Any complications or complexities are, of course, heightened if time is a factor. Your best bet is to shop around online. In many cases, if you cannot find a package deal and are forced to book a hotel room separate from your flight arrangements, your choices may be increased but so will the price. This may seem like a dire situation but all is not lost. In fact, seeking the best price on a room at a great hotel can actually be easier at the last second. Contact the hotel shortly before you would like to stay there and ask if they have any openings. Hotels often offer rooms at a discounted price close to your chosen stay when they are still available. As you scramble to make vacation plans at the last minute, it is crucial to have a backup plan in place. Find an inexpensive hotel close to your vacation destination and book a room there. Make sure that this particular hotel allows for late cancellations. By booking a room at a cheaper hotel, you can make sure that you will have someplace to stay. This way your bases are covered, and you stand a very good chance of getting a great deal on the hotel in which you would to prefer to stay. The Joy of “Cruising” For Deals Booking a vacation at the last minute is never a lost cause, even if the vacation desired is a cruise vacation. People tend to book cruises ahead of time. Oftentimes, they are booked far in advance. This would make it seem as though there is little hope for the last minute cruise enthusiast, but this is not true. Although cruises tend to be booked early, sometimes reservations are cancelled shortly before the actual cruise. Cruise companies have a need to fill their ships with as many vacationers as possible. The more vacationers they can occupy their cruise ships with the better. In order to get these open spots filled, cruise companies may offer reduced rates. Your position as a last minute vacationer can give you access to these last second sales and send you on a dream cruise without breaking the bank. Always Ask Questions It is important to point out that just because you are in a special situation, these potential deals may not be instantly offered to you. Asking the right questions is the best way to find out what is available. You may wind up being pleasantly surprised at the deals available, but only if you ask questions and are persistent. Stick to your guns, and remember that sometimes airlines, hotels and cruise companies find themselves in last minute jams similar to your situation. Planning a last minute vacation can be stressful, but it does not have to be. Now that you know that there are many possibilities available, and even some advantages, to planning a vacation at the last minute, this process should go a bit more smoothly. It is possible to find great deals in any circumstance. Make sure to stay positive, ask questions and try not to get stressed out. And, most importantly, enjoy your vacation!Lisa Parker is a freelance writer who writes about topics and tips involving the travel industry and vacation deals, often discussing specific subjects such as hotels and cheap flights at http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/.
Source: www.ArticlePros.com

Cool Places ? In Hot Malaysia
The pet monkey named Joyng bit through her leash and romped through the fronds of the palm trees, celebrating her freedom. She paused occasionally to heave a coconut down at the sweat-soaked baseball cap of her frantic owner, who was chasing wildly after her and, in the Terengganu dialect which Joyng knew, beseeching her to come down. Such is life in tropic Malaya’s resorts–better known to Europeans (especially Germans) than Americans. Guests enjoy the sun, sandy beaches, swimming pools, eco-tourism, river cruising, ocean diving, jungle trekking, remainder-to-remnant massages and spacious villas in the architectural styles of the Malayan Archipelago. They will also find crab-feeding monkeys, noisy hornbills and monitor lizards sunning them selves on the green lawns as their neighbors. Our press grouping’s have was limited to impertinent local culinary art, sleeping in comfortable villas, snorkeling in warm seas and partaking in 3 health club treatments, which together created a perfect high gear-enjoyment refuge memory. We had first base flown into Kuala Lumpur, ’s modern capital city, which everyone calls “KL.” The cosmopolitan city and business center gained new public awareness when the Petronas Twin Towers topped out in 1996 and occupancy began in early 1997. Tower One is occupied by Petronas, the state-owned petroleum corporation. Tower Two houses Petronas’ associate companies and multinationals. The towers are joined by the 192-foot-long sky bridge on levels 41 and 42. Our final examination dinner was at the Fisherman’s Cove Restaurant, which offered an Asian-fusion of Western grill, Taiwanese dishes, Italian specialties and impudent seafood. The open kitchen, views and state-of-the-art design made it the ultimate dining know at Pangkor Laut. Our drive back to KLIA for our flight home was notable because it was on Ching Ming, the day that people from the Formosan communities traditionally sojourn cemeteries to honor and show respect to their ancestors. The many final exam resting places that we passed, all senior high school on hillsides, were thick with devotees and there were no places left to park on the highway. is a great place to inflict, but be prepared for heat, overwhelming humidity and thunder-showers every afternoon, depending on the time of year.
The Most Exciting European Adventure Tours
Adventure tours offer a level of excitement and exploration quite different from an ordinary vacation. This type of vacation typically involves a well planned out tour of not just one city or vacation destination, but several. Also, an adventure tour highlights cultural and historical sites and can involve at least some level of physical exertion; everything from coping with off road exploration to rafting and climbing. There are few continents on Earth which are more fascinating and diverse than Europe. For this reason, among others, there are few locations which are better to experience an adventure tour on than in Europe. Considering the amount of history which took place between European nations, there is much to be discovered. Also, the fact that Europe is comprised of incredible landscapes which are as distinct as the peoples who occupy them, a European adventure tour is truly an unforgettable experience. An adventure tour on the European continent allows you to walk the very lands where so many of the adventures in ancient stories took place. If you are looking for an experience that will provide you with fond memories for years to come, you might want to consider some of the following tour destinations. Scotland Many people have a love affair with Scottish culture and history, so Scotland can be a wonderful destination for an adventure tour. When touring Scotland you can walk the highlands and the lowlands like the Scots of old, either camping in the wild or staying at a different Scottish inn each night. For those wishing to get in touch with Scottish culture, a Scottish adventure tour can be a dream come true. France If you don’t want to visit Scotland, France might be a better option. You might consider hiking the Haute Route, a mountaineering route that was designed to link Chamonix and Zermatt (which are two of the most well-known and beloved mountaineering areas in all of Europe.) You might also wish to go canoeing on the rivers of southwestern France, moving along rivers bathed in history as you can see castles and other historical sites from your seat in the canoe. There are tours that will take you through the Christmas markets of France, as well as the breathtaking cities of Paris, Lyon and Nice. Italy and the Netherlands If canoeing and hiking is not exactly what you’re looking for, consider taking a bike tour of Italy or the Netherlands. Both of these countries have centuries of history and culture for you to take in while enjoying the freedom of biking under your own power. Adventure tours are designed to take you through beautiful and culturally-important regions of the country, and are generally arranged so that you will have luxurious lodging each night to help you relax from the rigors of riding all day. Bike tours allow you to cover more ground each day than hiking tours do, so you will generally get to see more of the country as you continue your tour. England and Ireland If you are planning on visiting England, you might consider taking one of the hiking tours along Hadrian’s Wall. This wall stretches across the Pennines and is considered one of the feats of Roman engineering. By taking a tour along the wall you will be able to marvel at the length of it as you consider that it was built by hand: all while enjoying the beauty of the hillsides of northern England. Similar tours can also be taken in Ireland, where you can see the old rock walls that in many places are still maintained by the descendants of those who built them. Greece Should you want an adventure tour that doesn’t involve quite as much hiking, head to Greece or other locations in the Mediterranean where cruises are offered to let you experience the historic coastlines that helped to shape so much of Europe’s civilization. Unlike cruise lines which have you cruising on massive luxury ships, many of the Greek and Mediterranean cruises use smaller ships built in a more classic style so that you will know the feel of those ancient ships while learning about the culture that surrounded them. Adventure tours taken in this area can include visits some of the most beautiful islands and ancient locations in the world, such as Mykonos, Kusadasi, Patmos, Rhodes, Heraklion and Santorini. European Adventure Tours by Train Other popular European tour options involve tours by train. Most of Europe is connected by a railway system, and with a EuroPass you can take a train easily from one country to the next so as to enjoy the cultural and historical significance of each. You can visit the vineyards of France, the castles of Germany, and the markets of Italy with nothing but a train ride in between. Tours which are centered around train transport generally include your EuroPass in the price of the tour package. Regardless of the type of adventure tour that you want to take, make sure that you spend a little time exploring the offerings of different tour coordinators so that you can find exactly the tour package that’s right for you. In addition to getting ideas for additional things that you would like to do while in Europe, you may be able to save money on the adventure tour that you take as well.Lisa Parker is a freelance writer who writes about the travel industry and vacation deals, often focusing on specific tour vacations such as European tours at http://www.flightcentre.ca/tours/.

What Is An Adventure Tour?
An adventure tour is not your typical vacation. As indicated by the name, an adventure tour includes an element of excitement and exploration. For most travellers, the adventure lies in the destinations, the activities, and the tour group that you go with. A properly planned adventure tour can be a once in a lifetime experience. Taking adventure tours is part of a growing trend for those who want to get more out of their vacations than simply sitting on the beach. Many individuals in today’s world engage in regular exercise and other “extreme sports”, and are also interested in the culture and landscape of a foreign country. For these vacationers, a basic trip to a tropical island will just not do. If you mountain bike, mountain climb, or white water raft in your free time, why not incorporate that activity into your vacation? All of these exciting elements are combined in an adventure tour. Choose Your Own Adventure The extreme differences and varieties of landscape and climate of the four corners of the Earth come to life on an adventure vacation. At the heart of the adventure tour is the location or locations visited on the trip. Different people see different activities as adventures, so there are many options on an adventure tour depending on the traveler’s interests. Other vacationers can handle only a certain amount of activity, so that has to be taken into account as well. In most cases, an adventure tour includes physical exertion of some kind. This type of adventure tour can include hiking, bicycling, kayaking, canoeing, and any other physical activity that you can think of, even ice climbing. Of course, all of these activities are enriched by the locale. White water rafting in the same old rivers in your home state can become ordinary. What better way to revitalize your interest in this extreme sport by travelling to New Zealand and trying you skills down a brand-new set of waterways. Other adventurous souls who may desire a bit less physical exertion can still travel to exotic locations and experience the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and everything else that their chosen destination or destinations has to offer. They can still enjoy the complete experience of taking in all that a city or country has to offer. This type of adventure tour usually involves cultural traditions, such as taking part in an ancient ceremony in Mexico. See and Do More A good part of the adventure tour is spent travelling so that more ground can be covered. So many sights and highlights can be caught and experienced along the way that a simple trip can seem to encompass what may have taken multiple vacations to cover. The advanced planning that an adventure tour includes allows for much more to be fit into each day than would be covered by a more relaxed and pampered. As you keep moving from stop to stop, you can see more of the state or country that you are visiting. On an adventure tour, you may even be able to move from country to country, such as in Southeast Asia or Africa, to sample all of the radically different cultures that share borders. Any nomadic, adventurous spirit would feel right at home traversing a multitude of nations on one adventure tour. Upon their return, travelers often report feeling that they feel as if they have experienced several vacations instead of just one. A traditional vacation may scratch the surface of a destination, but an adventure our thrusts you into the heart and soul of a foreign land. Strangers and Friends An unforeseen benefit of an adventure tour is that you experience these exotic locals with a group of other people. They can come from different areas, from different backgrounds, and, consequently, from radically different lives. You are all brought together to experience something special on an adventure tour. As you share experience after experience you bond within your own little group. You get the chance to share new experiences with people from different backgrounds, seeing how they react to the world you are discovering together. It has been said that you cannot understand this aspect of an adventure tour experience until you have lived through it. A great group of people travelling the world together can take an already amazing experience to new heights. Adventure tours are an experience unlike any other. They take the time that you would spend on a traditional vacation and offer you an unparalleled chance for excitement and adventure. The great diversity and variety of an adventure tour ensures that there really is something for everyone. On an adventure tour, no two experiences are exactly alike. The chance to take such a tour is a once in a lifetime opportunity but requires you to answer yes to a very simple question. Would you like to have an adventure?Mike Cole is a freelance writer who writes about the travel industry and vacation deals, often focusing on specific tour vacations such as adventure tours at http://www.flightcentre.ca/tours/.
Source: www.ArticlePros.com

Tips To Get The Best Rates On Flights
Travelling can be expensive, especially when you’re going to be travelling by plane. Everyone always wants to find the best deal that they can for their flights, but in many cases they are not sure exactly how to go about this. There is more to finding the best rates on flights than simply logging on to a website and looking at their flight offerings; here are some suggestions as to how you can save money on your flights and make sure that you find the best rates available to you when you travel. If you are travelling on relatively short notice, one way to find a good rate on the flight that you take is to call the airline booking desk and check to see if they have any cancelled reservations. Airlines will often offer lower rates on flights with cancellations in order to get the seats filled, though the discounts only apply to the specific flight that the tickets were cancelled for. This means that you may have to adjust your schedule in order to be able to make the flight on time, but you can save quite a bit of money by travelling this way. Another option to save money on flights is to book them in advance. While not all airlines offer discounts for advance booking, there are several that do as a way of encouraging people to make their travel plans weeks or even months before they are scheduled to leave. In addition to possibly being able to lock in a lower ticket price, booking in advance can also help to ensure that you can get the seats that you want. If the airline that you are using does offer advance booking discounts, you will likely need to book your flight at least two weeks before the date that you are scheduled to depart. For those who do not book their flights in advance, they will most likely encounter less choices and higher airfares. Provided that you do not have to travel on a very specific schedule, you can usually save money by taking flights during the week instead of travelling on the weekend. The majority of the business that airlines have comes on the weekends, so they will generally offer discounted fares to those passengers who travel during the week in an effort to boost weekday bookings. Also red-eye flights as well as flights with at least one stop usually are offered at a lower cost than a direct flight. Be aware that there are generally exclusions to this pricing policy made around holidays, so you should take the time to check the rates before booking your flight if you want to get the weekday travel discount. One simple way to save money on your flights is to plan out your tip well in advance and take the time to shop around and see whether one airline has better rates to your destination than another. The cheaper flights might be at different times, require more lay overs, or route you though different cities, but the difference in prices between flights to the same city can be significant if you are willing to shop around and possibly spend a little bit more time in transit. A popular method of getting good rates on flights is to make use of online flight and travel booking websites. Many of the top websites are able to get deals on flights that you will not be able to find elsewhere, but it is important that you take the time to compare the offerings of different sites if you choose to go that route. Just as different airlines can have different rates for similar flights, different discount booking websites can charge different amounts for the same flights. By checking several websites and comparing their rates you will likely be able to save more than if you simply visited a single website and booked your flight. Along the same lines, you can generally save money on your flight if you book it as a part of a package along with lodging and car rental. Some travel agents and booking websites can even include tickets to popular entertainment events in with the cost of your package. While you may pay more for the package than you would for just the airline tickets, if you are in need of lodging or a rental car then you can generally get them for less by booking them together than you would if they were booked separately. This does not mean that you should not check for separate prices as well, since sometimes you will be able to find a great deal on your flight or hotel room that you would not be able to beat with a package deal.Mike Cole is a freelance writer who writes about topics pertaining to traveling and budget vacations, often discussing traveling tips associated with finding cheap flights at http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/.
Source: www.ArticlePros.com

Top 10 Tips For Vacationing On An Adventure Tour
Adventure tours are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to a traditional vacation. Travelers have found that adventure tours break up the monotony of visiting just one location on a trip. By visiting numerous locations, most of which are breathtaking landscapes or vibrant cities, an adventure tour can making an entire vacation an experience to remember. Many adventure tours include hiking and camping, and some even feature white water rafting or ocean kayaking. Since an adventure tour is not your ordinary vacation, there are a few things that you should keep in mind when venturing out on one. Here are the 10 most important tips to remember when setting out for your adventure tour vacation. #1 - Be Prepared Many of the places that an adventure tour can take you will put you out of the range of most cellular phones, so it is important that you prepare yourself ahead of time. Make sure that you travel with a fully-stocked first aid kit, complete with epinephrine and a snakebite kit. Training classes in CPR and first aid can be useful as well, and are generally offered by the local Red Cross or other civic organizations throughout the year. If you or anyone in your party requires medication, make sure that you have enough for the entire trip. Carry a list of all allergies that your party members have as well as all of the medications that everyone takes so that it can be provided to medical personnel if needed. #2 - Don’t Forget the Sunscreen While most people can get a sunburn and have it be a minor inconvenience, you will likely be spending most if not all of the day outside when on an adventure tour. Severe sunburns can lead to infections or other threats, and can also greatly increase your chances of getting several types of skin cancer. Make sure that you choose a waterproof or sweat proof sunscreen to keep it from getting washed off, and reapply it several times throughout the day. #3 - Review the Tour Information Before You Set Out Not only can reviewing the tour information help you to be more prepared for what you will face on your adventure tour, but it can also give you an idea of some of the things to be looking for. Many wonders may go unnoticed if you are not looking for them while on your tour. #4 - Listen To Your Tour Guide When travelling with a tour guide, make sure that you pay attention to the things that they say. This can not only enrich your tour experience but can also help you to avoid dangerous situations. A tour guide or tour coordinator is one advantage of taking an adventure tour rather than venturing to these locations on your own. The tour guide should be well versed on the locations you are visiting and has been trained to both add information and an element of safety to the vacationers on the adventure tour. If an Adventure Tour Requires Experience, Make Sure That You Have It Some tours are perfect for everyone, while others may require that you have a certain level of experience with hiking, rafting, or other activities. Make sure that you meet the requirements or you may be at risk of injury. #5 - Stay Hydrated Drink plenty of water while on your adventure tour, as it can be very easy to become dehydrated when out in the sun or doing physical activities. Make sure that you avoid caffeine and alcohol, as these can speed up dehydration. #6 - Be Careful What You Eat and Drink Only eat or drink from the wild when you absolutely know that it is safe to do so. There are a number of poisonous berries and plants which look perfectly harmless at first, and open water can contain a number of harmful microbes. Your best bet is to make sure that you have plenty of food and water in your pack. #7 - Be Wary of Wildlife Wildlife can be beautiful, but you should make sure that you give it the respect that it deserves. Not only are wild animals unused to human contact and may attack if provoked, but some animals can carry diseases which can be very dangerous. Likewise, many foods which are processed for human consumption can make wild animals very sick. Admire wildlife from afar to keep both you and the animals safe. #8 - Be Respectful of Your Environment Ideally, when an adventure tour group passes through there will be little or no signs that they were there. Avoid leaving litter behind or causing unnecessary damage to the environment as you pass through so that other tour groups will be able to enjoy the scenery as well. #9 - Don’t Take Unnecessary Risks It’s easy to get caught up in the adventure aspect of an adventure tour, especially when your days consist of activities such as rock climbing and white water rafting. Remember to keep a level head and don’t take unnecessary risks, since these risks can lead to serious injury if you aren’t careful. #10 - Take Pictures! An adventure tour is truly a memorable experience. Whether you are traversing a narrow path down the Grand Canyon, hiking through the French countryside, or experiencing a safari in Africa or Australia, take a camera! Send the pictures to friends and family, or keep these memories for yourself. Either way, you will ensure that the incredible sights you have witnessed will stay with you forever.Mike Cole is a freelance writer who writes about the travel industry and vacation deals, often focusing on specific tour vacations such as adventure tours at http://www.flightcentre.ca/tours/.
Source: www.ArticlePros.com

Popular Adventure Tours In North America
The growing popularity of adventure tours has changed the way many people spend their vacations. Once thought of as primarily a chance to kick back and relax, modern vacationers have a multitude of options available to them besides simply sitting on a beach. Adventure tours offer vacationers a chance to explore and challenge themselves in ways not possible in their everyday lives. Mountain climbing, hiking and white water rafting are just some of the exciting and memorable experiences vacationers can have on an adventure tour. Often experienced in remote parts of the world such as Africa or Southeast Asia, adventure tours are available in North America as well. Take a look at some of the most popular adventure tours available. Pioneer Adventures of the Old West Covering several beautiful landscapes in the Southwest area of the United States, this adventure tour will take you everywhere from the Grand Canyon to Montezuma Castle. As opposed to a vacation which simply takes you to the Grand Canyon or Zion National Park, this adventure tour includes both of these breathtaking locations as well as several other incredible landmarks. Besides coordinating meals and transportation, an adventure tour includes a qualified tour director to keep everyone together and informed of important stops and historical landmarks. For instance, during the “Pioneer Adventures of the Old West” adventure tour, the tour director will discuss the historical importance of Williams, which was once a rough frontier town. Vacationers who choose this adventure tour will also have the unique experience of seeing Sedona, Arizona, by 4WD Jeep. The Jeep tour goes through incredible Dry Creek Basin, offering the adventure tourist a different perspective of the landscape which was once home to the Old West. Grand Tour of Canada Most vacations take you to just one fantastic destination: a warm and beautiful beach, a majestic mountain range or a bustling city. An adventure tour combines all of these destinations into one memorable experience. The “Grand Tour of Canada” adventure tour includes all of these aspects. Visit the beautiful Canadian cities of Vancouver and Victoria, take a ride on the Athabasca Glacier on a custom designed ice explorer and take in the picturesque sights of Lake Louise and Banff. It is important to note that just because an adventure tour is mapped out and planned ahead of time, there are still days which can be customized to the vacationers specifications. Often referred to as “your choice activities”, these days are set aside so that vacationers can experience certain locations at their own pace. An example of “your choice activities” occurs during the Jasper stop on the “Grand Tour of Canada” adventure tour. Vacationers have the choice of taking a cruise across Maligne Lake, experiencing a horseback ride through the mountains or venturing down the Athabasca River on a comfortable float trip. Best of California An adventure tour allows you to experience more than just one location. The “Best of California” tour brings you the best of both San Francisco and Los Angeles, as well as everything in between. An ordinary vacation to either of these cities would of course be a great and memorable experience, but on an adventure tour nothing is left to chance. The thought and organization that is put into the planning of these tours ensures this, as does the tour director who accompanies you on your trip. The “Best of California” tour begins in San Francisco, ushering you across town on the famous cable car and through beautiful Pacific Heights and historic Golden Gate Park. As you soak up the culture and sights of this “world” city, the tour continues taking you into the California country and wilderness via Yellowstone National Park, Carmel and picturesque Pebble Beach golf course. Next stop is Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, California. Bringing you the best sights and sounds of the great state of California, this adventure tour takes you right down Sunset Boulevard to the famous “Hollywood” sign and Hollywood walk of Fame. This particular adventure tour offers two types of tours in one package. In both San Francisco and Los Angeles, vacationers are treated to an in-depth sightseeing tour and an orientation tour of Carmel, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. A North American adventure tour includes beautiful cities and landscapes, history and culture. An ordinary vacation to even one of the locations would not provide the incredible possibilities available to travelers on an adventure tour. Also, the degree of physical exertion and the amount of activities taken is entirely up to the vacationer. Some individuals want the most intense vacation they can find while others want the sights and sounds without an intense physical requirement. An adventure tour is a traditional vacation and so much more. Some adventure tours are crafted for the nature lover, highlighting numerous national parks and the best nature settings that North America has to offer.

Make The Most Of Layover Time Between Flights
For the frequent flyer and the occasional traveler alike, layover time is both an unfortunate occurrence and a fact of life. These hours can be empty and mindless or they can be used productively, or, at the very least, in a way that makes time go faster. So, how do you spend the hours while waiting for your flight? With a little creativity, this once wasted time can become time well spent. A Time to Relax Perhaps you are looking for a calm, relaxed way to spend your layover time. If this is the case then you have many choices. Besides sitting around watching the planes take off, you can listen to some music. Portable mp3 players and other forms of listening devices have made carrying around an entire library of music very manageable. Listening to your favorite songs is a nice relaxing way to spend your time in peace. People watching is a great way to spend time during a layover as well. As a meeting place for individuals from various countries and regions of the world, an airport is an ideal location for people watching. This is a favorite hobby of many travelers. Watching people, wondering where they are going and for what reason can pass the time in a fun way. You could spend your time enjoying a book or magazine. This is the perfect chance to catch up on some of your pleasure reading. Books that have either been given to you as a present or you yourself have purchased provide a great way to spend layover time between flights. If you did not pack any reading materials, you can take a stroll through the terminal and visit some of the airport’s stores. Peruse the reading materials at newsstands until you find something of interest. Layover time can be well spent by doing some window shopping. Most major airports have many great stores offering a wide range of products. A More Technological Approach If you are travelling, it is important to have your cell phone fully charged. If your cell phone is not charged, take the time available during a layover to charge your phone and any other electronics you are carrying with you. Time spent during a layover is an ideal time to catch up on all the conversations you have been putting off, or did not have the time to make. Take advantage of the time available during a layover by catching up with friends and family that you have not spoken with in a while. For a more solitary, although just as entertaining approach, you could bring along a portable DVD player and enjoy your favorite movies. A portable DVD player usually costs between $100-$200 but in a situation such as a layover, it is money well spent. The television sets in the airport tend to be tuned to news shows. If that does not interest you, or cannot sustain your interest, a portable DVD player is a great solution. Plug in some headphones and escape into a great movie. Don’t be surprised if you see some other people watching along with you, envious of the entertainment options you have brought along. If There Is Work to Be Done For those individuals who have a laptop computer, a layover is the great time to catch up on any work-related reading or projects which can be accessed via a laptop. Nowadays, many airports offer wireless internet access, and also several outlets which can be used to either to charge or power-up a laptop computer. Any work which can be completed in the airport during a layover is work you will not have to do later. You can surf the web for business or go to any other sites you choose. You can surely find something to keep yourself occupied with for the duration of your layover. You have time on your hands; why not make the most of it? Layovers can be viewed as a waste of time or as an opportunity. The list of activities you could engage in during a layover is practically endless. Capitalizing on the time available is an opportunity to take care of tasks otherwise put off. Tasks for business or for your personal life can be achieved during a layover. Get ahead at work by taking the time available during a layover to complete important assignments. Buy presents for the holidays or for a birthday coming up. Of course, if you are tired or do not feel like doing any work, the time available during a layover is perfect for simply relaxing. Listening to your favorite songs or watching some great movies will no doubt speed up the time between flights. Use your imagination and take advantage of the time available in the way which pleases you most.Lisa Parker is a freelance writer who writes about topics and tips involving the travel industry and vacation deals, often discussing specific subjects such as hotels and cheap flights at http://www.flightcentre.ca/flights/.
Source: www.ArticlePros.com

Apparitions and other mysterious happenings in Medjugorje
It is amazing that the ongoing events around the Marian apparitions in Medjugorje , a place of pilgrimage in Bosnia-Herzegovina, last until now. Medjugorje became well known all over the world. On Midsummer Day of 1981 six children saw a floating woman on a hill in the small, at that time Yugoslavian village. The woman was pointing to a newborn baby, she wore in her arm. Out of fear the children ran away. The next day, the 25th of June, the woman appeared again at the same place, this time alone, and this time the children ran to her and they started a conversation with her. This conversation has not ended until today. This woman is Virgin Mary and she still appeares to the six people and talks to them. She was wearing a light gray dress with a white veil and they told that she had blue eyes and was surrounded by a wreath of twelve stars. One day later Mother Mary appeared again, but only to one of the girls and she said the words: “Mir, mir, mir - peace, peace, peace…” This is still the marrow of all her messages, which should be suppressed by tanks ten years later. The mountain was barricaded and the church was closed. Exactly ten years later, on 26 June 1991, Yugoslavia the war broke out. When the war captured one place of Yugoslavia after another and devastated all of them, only this small place Medjugorje was in a strange way completely spared of all atrocities. Not even a bullet has been fired. Meanwhile, countless reports about all these curiosities went through numerous countries all over the world. Mysterious pictures Beside these apparitions a lot of other miracles and mysterious phenomena happen in Medjugorje. One example: It happend a few times that someone in Medjugorje or in other places in the world has made a picture and instead of the original motive there was an entirely different picture, namely the Virgin Mary. Of course, it is surely possible to fake a photograph, but this happend to people who didn`t know each other. They are from totaly different countries but the motive on the picture was always the same. After a while the motiv changed. It was always Virgin Mary, but sometimes it was just her and sometimes you could see her holding Jesus. A picture which was made in Medjugorje didn`t show the original motiv after the development. Instead of the original motiv something entirely different was shown: in this case the image of Mary with the child Jesus. Sun miracle Priest Slavko reported that he saw a mysterious celestial sign in the sky, but it didn`t seem to be something good. That was at the beginning of August in 1981: “About 150 people were on the mountain of appearances (Apparition Hill), and many of them have told and testified that they all have seen the same, and some of them have been scared about that. And finally, in Medjugorje and in all other places where Mary has appeared, people are talking about miraculous recoveries and miracle cures. Medical examinations of the Visionaries Even the young viewers had to undergo medical examinations during the apparitions of Mother Mary. It was in 1984 when medical scientists put them electrodes on their body to observe their brain waves, their ears, their eyes and their larynx during an apparition. The result was that the ecstasy brought forth an elimination of sensual perceptions of the external world. A noise of 90 decibels for example wasn`t realised by Ivan. The Visionaries also don`t feel no pressure, no tricks, no pinching or otherwise during an apparition. It is also veryfascinating to note that at the moment when Virgin Mary appears, the brain activity of every single Visionary jumps to 100 of their brain during normal activities. If Medjugorje arouse interest in you now, visit Medjugorje Map . You will find helpful information about accommodations, a map, messages of Virgin Mary, everything about the Visionaries, videos, pictures, etc.I was born in Medjugorje http://www.medjugorjemap.com , Bosnia-Herzegovina.We (my family and me) left the small village when my father has gotten a job offer in Germany. We moved to Germany,I finished highschool and college and we have a good life!Althougt everything here is fine I am dissatisfied somehow because i miss the rest of our family(living in Medjugorje) and the way of life there. It is a beautiful place.
Source: www.ArticlePros.com

South Africa releases fresh work permit quota's
The Department of Home Affairs in South Africa that issues work permits, business permits, life partner and spousal permits, retired permits and relatives permits has recently announced a new permit allocation. This is designed in consideration of the skills shortages that may be offered by immigrants hoping to move to South Africa. Business permit allocation South Africa has long realised the obligation to secure industry and merchants have a connection to the correct skills, more than ever with the enormous expenditure occurring for the 2010 world cup. South Africa has a first class education system and reliable labor force, it is observed that in a few avocations there is a talent shortage. To assist the immigration development in the business permit sector the Department of Home Affairs regularly reviews what qualifications are required and issues a quota work permit requirements document. This quota list allows immigrants to apply for a quota work permit which means the potential immigrant can consider a work permit before receiving an offer of employment, in essence simplifying the overall immigration application process. What trade are required? After lengthy consideration between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and feedback from the major South African companies, Home Affairs published the latest list of scarce occupations this year. Prospective immigrants looking for employment in these areas may apply for permits allowing them to reside and work in South Africa. Reflecting the reality of economic growth in South Africa the Department of Home Affairs focuses very much on technical and engineering professions. In fact any Industrial engineer qualifies automatically, but it remains well worth a look at the employees in demand in detail. Because private and public investments in infrastructure projects immigrants with experience in the construction industry are most sought after. Included in the quota jobs are CAD technicians, Draftsperson, Structural Engineers, Civil Engineers, Civil engineering technicians and technologists. In the manufacturing industries the Department of Home Affairs requires quotas for occupations such as Manufacturing Technicians, Mechanical Draughtsperson and Technicians, Hydraulics and Pneumatics Technicians, Mechanical Engineers, Quality Engineers and Inspectors, Pipeline Engineers and Refrigeration Engineers. In the aviation industry immigrants with backgrounds such as Aeronautical Engineers, Avionics Engineers and Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are invited to consider the quota work permit. In the electronics sector, South Africa is looking for engineers that are qualified as Mechatronics Technicians, Electronic Engineers, Electronics Technicians, Autotronics and Electromechanical Technicians. Recently the Department, also requested some skilled laborers that can apply for immigration such as precision metal workers, fitters and turners, toolmakers, boilermakers, coded welders and millwrights. In other disciplines the Department has recognised the need for BPO for economic stability and has included Call Centre and Contact Centre Managers in the quota system. In the organisation and information professionals notably positions for economists, statisticians, actuaries and risk assessors are obtainable for quota professions. The mining industry is of equal importance to the South African economy. This is reflected by the fact that Home Affairs offers immigrants in the professions Geologists, Geophysicists, Mining Engineering and Earth Science Technicians the ability to get work and residence permits. Other industry skills covered are agriculture and forestry, the chemical industry, pharmacology, biotechnology, astronomy and food technology. South Africa appears to be suffering from a skills shortage among Science Teachers and Maths and Jewellery Makers. It is important to note that Home Affairs will check if the future immigrant has the desired skills and experience as well as five years of work experience before granting the quota work permit.

Enjoy Great Golf In Jamaica
A vacation destination for decades, Jamaica is home to a number of quality golf courses. The temperate climate is a welcome part of the golfing experience, as is the general atmosphere of the golf courses, with many being notable for their outstanding customer service focus and their beautifully kept grounds. It should be noted that while many of the golf courses are private, most of the more exclusive facilities do make day passes available for vacationers. Half Moon Golf Club, in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is known among tournament players throughout the world for its classic lines and challenging set up. Open and beautiful, one of the most challenging aspects of this golf course is the wind. Over 7,000 yards long, this course offers a good work out, in addition to a fine game. Luxurious, enchanting, and uniquely challenging are apt descriptions of the White Witch Course, a recent addition to the famed Ritz Carlton Rose Hall Resort of Montego Bay, Jamaica. The course is named for the infamous Annee Palmer who is said to haunt the area, and rumored to have indulged in illicit relationships with the slaves she held and treated brutally during the 1800’s to run her huge sugar plantation, and also said to have murdered three husbands before turning up strangled herself. This magnificent course was designed by Robert Von Hagge, Rick Baril and Mike Smelek, and has a slightly different style from the typical Caribbean golfing experience. While there are stunning ocean views to be had at 16 of the holes, they rest upon high ground, as the course wanders through strong hills and players are cooled by the unobstructed ocean breeze. Three Palms Ocean Course, found at Wyndham Rose Hall, is renowned through Jamaica and well beyond the island for the amazing scenery that its 6798-yard course is built around. Golfers will play alongside of the family graveyard of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and the ruins of an aqueduct from the 18th century. There will be ocean side holes, canyons, waterfalls and gorges. This is a truly beautiful and historic course, and can only be an unforgettable golfing experience. The Tryall Golf Course, at the Tryall Club in Montego Bay hosts the Johnny Walker World Championship and is a favorite playing spot of golfers all over the world. The 6,772-yard course extends from flowering forest to cool seaside, and includes mountain and ocean views that are simply spectacular. Fascinating relics of history along the course include an 18th century water wheel. There are several other notable golf courses in Jamaica. These include the Manchester Club, one of the oldest facilities of its nature, which also makes available tennis and billiards, the rugged terrain of the Negril Hills Golf Club, which is known to be a challenging and exhilarating play. Breezes Golf and Beach Resort offers truly upscale play. Whether you’re planning a vacation devoted to enjoying the very best courses that Jamaica has to offer or you are a casual golfer seeking fun greens for a day or two’s play, Jamaica is home to some of the finest golfing opportunities in the entire region.
